Tobacco-free Generation Resource Pack for Youth Work Settings
Our tobacco-free generation resource pack for youth work settings is a free, evidence based resource suitable for youth workers and other professionals working with young people.
Please note that this is the pack designed for youth work settings, if you are a school we have a dedicated page for the schools' pack which you can find here.
The resources include a range of activities to provide young people with knowledge of the harmful effects of smoking, vaping and emerging nicotine products such as nicotine pouches.
It's designed to
- Support you to deliver high quality education on tobacco and vaping issues.
- Provide you with all the facts, materials and resources you need to feel confident to deliver effective tobacco and vaping prevention education.
- Help equip young people to make confident and responsible decisions on smoking, vaping and their health and wellbeing
- Enhance the skills that young people develop by engaging in activities that are designed to inspire confidence, self-esteem, resilience and decision-making skills. These skills are transferable to many other issues including substance misuse, alcohol, sexual health and navigating transitions.
The activities are designed for use in group settings, rather than one-to-one work.
Each activity has a different focus, arranged by theme.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Focus on the current priorities within your organisation and local community and adapt your approach to reflect this. This will allow young people to explore issues relevant to their own circumstances and environment.
Each activity links to the Curriculum for Excellence health and wellbeing experiences and outcomes.
You’re not expected to work through the resource pack from start to finish. Simply select the activities you think are most relevant to the needs of the young people you’re working with.
This pack is best used and downloaded on a desktop device.

How to use the activities
The Tobacco-free Youth Pack consists of the Activities Bank featuring 30 activities on 12 different topics such as vaping, building confidence, responsibility, mental health and the cost of smoking.
In each activity there is a section which tells you what you'll need for the young people to take part. This will include the resources which have a code to help you identify it. There are 12 folders of these resources organised by theme that are included in the download of the activity pack.
This section tells you which resource accompanies the activity.

You can find the resource in the download - use the theme heading and code to identify it!

You're now ready to tackle the activity with the young people you work with!
