About us

Our vision is for a healthier Scotland, free from the harm and inequality caused by tobacco and related products.

ASH Scotland - Action on Smoking and Health - is the leading Scottish charity committed to working to eradicate the harms and inequalities caused the use of tobacco and related products.

We were founded by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1973 as the Scottish arm of the then UK-wide Action on Smoking and Health organisation.

We were subsequently established as a fully independent Scottish charity in 1993 and, since then, we are the only ASH organisation working in and for Scotland.

Conflict of interest

ASH Scotland is committed to protecting our work from interference by the tobacco industry and financially connected interests, in line with good practice set out in Article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Recent developments have demonstrated that the recreational nicotine and tobacco and related product industries (including vapes, heat-not-burn and oral recreational nicotine products) have negatively influenced tobacco control policy.

We require that our employees and partners do not have any associations with tobacco and related products commercial interests, and this includes direct or indirect employment, funding, or in-kind support. Indirect support includes arms-length organisations and networks with funding links to the industry, such as Global Action to End Smoking (formerly SFW and FSFW) and GFN/KAC.
