Smoking, young people and mental health

Research commissioned by ASH Scotland in 2020 found that many young people are not aware of the negative impacts smoking can have on mental health and wellbeing. It is not something routinely included in smoking prevention education and there is a lack of accessible information on the topic. Our goal is to raise awareness amongst young people of the positive impact that remaining tobacco-free or quitting smoking, can have on mental health and wellbeing.

Smoking, young people and mental health report

In late 2020, ASH Scotland commissioned YouthBorders and Lothian Association of Youth Clubs to conduct a consultation to explore smoking, young people and mental health.

We published a report which includes recommendations on how youth services in Scotland can be supported to enhance young people’s health and wellbeing through addressing smoking.
